I thank the Lord for this opportunity to give my testimony for Christ. I am Steven Dewasagayam. Since my childhood until 15 years of age, I was not deprived of the basic necessities in life. I used to go church regularly but there was not a commitment in my relationship with Jesus. I started to indulge in sinful activities like drinking liquor and smoking cigarettes. I began to absent myself from school.
After I left school, I joined the secret society. Eventually, I became the head of the group. In order to show my supremacy, I overpowered other gang groups and took charge of certain pubs and clubs. By that time, I was on drugs in a mild way. As a result, I became a very notorious person.
While serving national service, I used to look forward to the weekend night to enjoy together with my gang members. There was different sorts of entertainment, drugs consumption and gangsterism in the market. On the other hand, my parents were praying tearfully asking Jesus Christ to take charge of my life and transform me.
After completing my National Service, I began to operate in the company of larger gang groups. I also became a drug-peddler. One day there was a sudden raid by the police and I was apprehended for consumption of drugs. Subsequently, I was detained at the DRC. After my release from DRC, I relapsed into drug addiction and sent to DRC to serve my second term. Even DRC admission could not deter me and again I was re-admitted for the third time. At that time, I was detained under the Long term detention.
One day while serving my detention, our Lord Jesus touched my life while revealing all my past sinful deeds. As a result, tears flowed down my cheeks.
"He who says I know him and does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in Him" (I John 2:4).
As I confessed my sins, Jesus spoke to me that He has chosen me from my mothers womb. Since then, He has changed me marvellously from my old past to a new reformed and better man to serve His purpose.
"The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). The Lord has directed me to Christian Care Services Centre where I am taught not to succumb to addiction, temptation and other vices. In Care Centre, I learned how to walk and grow in fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise be to God for saving me from drug addiction and I also wish to share the peace and happiness that I have received from our Lord Jesus Christ.
